frost fire

Losing seventy-five pounds in five months has all sorts of interesting side effects, some of which I may or may not write about here, but there’s one in particular that I didn’t anticipate.

It’s freaking cold out!

“But, Jonathan Moeller, author of staggering genius!” you might say. “Of course it’s freaking cold out! The temperature is currently six degrees Fahrenheit, plus it’s snowing!”

Yeah, but I used to like weather like this. I used to look forward to December and January, not because of the holidays, but because it was so pleasantly chill outside. I’d take long walks in six degree weather just because I enjoyed it so much; it was the one time of the year when I felt adequately cooled.

Now going outside is actually painful. I never used to wear long-sleeved shirts. Now I don’t like to go outside without a long sleeve shirt, a heavy coat, and a lighter coat under the heavy coat.

Either this winter is much colder, or I just never noticed it before. On the plus side, maybe summer won’t be quite as bad as I remember.
