Progress

So, I’ve officially been on Shape Medical’s plan for 1 week now. I’m having very mixed feelings. Firstly, I’m still feeling pretty uncomfortable with taking prescription weight loss medication. According to the FDA’s website, it is common to build a tolerance to the drug in 3 weeks. Well, I already feel it wearing off. At day one, I felt like I was having to force myself to eat. Now, at day 8, I’m having to remind myself not to eat if I’m not hungry. A horrible side effect of this stuff is that I’ve been insatiably thirsty. I’m drinking so much water that I can’t make it through the night without going to the bathroom. I’m drinking 3-4 liters of water a day. And my thirst is never, ever quenched. I figure my body doesn’t mind the flush though, so I’m taking it in stride.

I’ve lost 7 pounds, so the will to continue exercise, diet, and cease the snacking is strong. The medication also makes me feel a little different emotionally. I can’t put my finger on it, but I don’t feel quite like myself. Regardless, I’m pressing onward. The diet seemed a little extreme at first, but I actually don’t mind it. I crave desserts probably once a day for a few minutes, but otherwise, this isn’t half bad, and it’s easy to follow. No processed carbs (no bread or bread type products at all), no fried food, no soda (not even diet!), no juice, sweets or added sugar, and nothing creamy, like ranch dressings or mayo. It sounds pretty limiting, but I’ve found that there is plenty of stuff that I can eat to help replace those comfort foods that I’m no longer allowed. Thank goodness Georgia peaches are in season, they’re the only thing keeping my from tearing into a carton of ice cream.

Ciao!
