A New Chapter

I am starting a new chapter in my life and have decided to keep track of it here as well. It’s been a long time coming, but I am FINALLY starting to take care of myself. I met with my personal trainer for the first time yesterday. She’s awesome, by the way!! I have enrolled in a 4 week program that she teaches called Urban Boot Camp. I will go Friday for the physical fitness assessment. Not looking forward to that because I’ve really let myself go. But, this will let her know where my strengths and weaknesses are and how to tailor my workout to push me to my limit.

She asked me to set some goals for this four week session and so I’ve decided to share them with you here. So, here goes.

Long Term Goals:

1. Lose the excess weight!

2. Increased strength and endurance!

3. Make exercise a part of my daily routine!

4. Complete a 5K Marathon!

Short Term Goals:

1. Make the choice to eat healthy EVERY DAY!

2. Stop the emotional eating!

3. Start walking NOW– don’t wait for Urban Boot Camp to start!

I will be keeping a food and exercise journal as well as a menu in addition to my blog and may share from those from time to time.  It all starts today. And it starts with small changes. For example, I will be taking the stairs instead of the elevator when I get to work today. I am also packing my lunch instead of ordering out! Little changes like these will help me get started on the right track. I tried all of this before, when I was married, but I never really committed to changing. I always had someone else to think about who complained constantly about the grocery bill– yet he would buy 2 or 3 2-liter sodas, 2 12- packs of canned sodas, and 2 or 3 of the 4-pack flavored juices– just for himself… every 2 weeks!!! But, enough of that… this is about ME, not him.

I know I will struggle with this… but what’s in the back of my head is that it only takes 21 days to create a new habit. Just 21 days. That’s all. I’m really looking forward to this new chapter in my life. I can’t wait to get healthy and set a good example for my girls. As a christian, I have a responsibility to take care of my body. After all, it is God’s temple. I have pretty much destroyed it over the past decade and even before that. So now… I’m restoring it.
